Basics of Rehydrating (information from Harvest Right):
All freeze-dried herbs, fruits, and vegetables are delicious as a snack, even without rehydrating, but you can also rehydrate them in a variety of ways. The best part is the nutrients and taste are intact either way!
Most freeze-dried foods can be rehydrated by adding just enough water for it to begin to pool at the bottom, stirring occasionally.
Delicate Herbs can be rehydrated by spraying with a light mist of water in a plastic bag, toss and enjoy.
Freeze-dried fruit can be used in most recipes like smoothies, cereal, oatmeal and it will rehydrate automatically.
You can also rehydrate freeze-dried fruit by placing in a bowl filled with cool water. Cover and let it sit to give it time to rehydrate.
Raw veggies can be rehydrated by placing in a bowl filled with cool water. Cover and let it sit. Once they are rehydrated, you can prepare them as you would fresh veggies.
Freeze-dried vegetables can also be used in most recipes. Use in soups, stews, chili, or spaghetti, they will rehydrate quickly.
Remember, it's easy to add water if there isn't enough, but it's difficult to remove water. Most food will rehydrate in 10 - 15 minutes.
